Who should take this course?
PADI Open Water Divers and Junior Open Water Divers who are at least 12 years old are ready to step up and enrol in an Advanced Open Water Diver course. Young divers may only participate in certain Adventures Dives – check with your PADI Instructor.
If you’re already an Adventure Diver, you only need to complete two more Adventure Dives to earn the Advanced Open Water Diver certification.
What will you learn?
You’ll plan your learning path with your instructor by choosing from a long list of Adventure Dives. There are two required dives – Deep and Underwater Navigation – and you choose the other three, for a total of five dives.
During the Deep Adventure Dive, you learn how to plan dives to deal with the physiological effects and challenges of deeper scuba diving. The Underwater Navigation Adventure Dive refines your compass navigation skills and helps you better navigate using kick-cycles, visual landmarks and time.
Two of the elective Adventure Dives typically done in Tobermory are Wreck Diver and Peak Performance Buoyancy. You have the 3 options for the third dive :
Option 1 - Nitrox Adventure Dive and Specialty Certification (extra $249+hst)
Pair your nitrox adventure dive with the Specialty course and get certified as an Enriched Air Diver while doing your Advanced course. This option includes nitrox fills for your Deep and Wreck dives, allowing you to stay down longer.
Option 2 - Nitrox Adventure Dive
Get introduced to nitrox diving on your Adventure dive and learn the differences between air and enriched air.
Option 3 - Search and Recovery
It happens: People accidentally drop things from docks, off boats or even while scuba diving. The Search and Recovery Adventure dive will teach you effective ways to search for objects underwater.
At Divers Den, we typically run our courses according to the following schedule:
1st Day (9am - 5pm) : Shore site (the Tugs) - Peak Performance Buoyancy, Navigation and Dive 3 (choose from options).
2nd Day (8am - 2pm) : Off our boat - Deep and Wreck dive on the Niagara II shipwreck.
How can you start learning now?
Sign up for Advanced Open Water Diver through Divers Den by booking online or calling the shop. We will send you your e-Learning code to get started right away!
What scuba gear will you use?
Beyond using basic scuba equipment, you’ll need a compass and dive knife or dive tool. You’ll also use specialized gear depending on the Adventure Dives you choose. For example, you’d obviously use a dry suit for the Dry Suit Adventure Dive. Your PADI Instructor will explain the equipment that you need and may suggest additional gear, such as dive light for night diving or lift bag for search and recovery diving.
FITNESS FOR DIVING
SCUBA diving is a physical activity and can be strenuous at times. In order to participate, a person must maintain a reasonable level of health and fitness. Certain medical issues must be considered. This is the basis for the PADI Medical Statement. We have provided the form below so that you may read it, print it, and if necessary, have your physician sign it before you begin your training at Divers Den.
