Job Title: Dive Instructor - PADI Certified
Pay Rate: Compensation to correspond with experience, starting at $20/hr
Job Type: Full time - Seasonal (May - October OR June - September 2022)
This individual must have cold water diving experience and previous dive instruction experience, preferably also in cold water. The ideal candidate will have a strong focus on safety and overall customer satisfaction and will thrive in a busy and exciting work environment.
The Instruction season generally runs from June through September. Candidates should be prepared for long hours during the peak season (July/August) but much more flexible hours during the shoulder seasons.
Duties include running DSD (Discover Scuba Diving) and Refresher / Cold Water Orientation courses as well as Open Water and Advanced Open Water courses as needed. Equipment sales and Continuing Education sales to students will be a compulsory part of the role with each course taught. Instructors can also expect to share Divemaster and Snorkel Crew shifts if and as required. Other duties include assisting students with finding the right equipment to rent or purchase, ensuring the Training Centre, retail storefront and storage areas are clean, tidy, and shelves are fully-stocked. May also include shifts in retail storefront, as required.
Other duties as needed, including customer service, i.e. signing students up for courses and fitting gear, cleaning, hanging to dry, putting away and light repairs to rental equipment following training sessions/courses, as required. Assisting with other tasks related to the operation of the Dive Shop and Training Centre, as required.
Qualifications:
- PADI OWSI Certification - or higher
- Current First Aid/CPR
- Intermediate to Advanced level English verbal and writing skills
Required Abilities:
- Standing and walking for long periods of time, lifting more than 50 lbs, going up and down stairs
- All team members must be physically able to participate in emergency life saving procedures and drills
- Working within different temperature ranges, indoor, outdoor, underwater
*Bilingualism is an asset, especially French or Chinese languages.
**Divemasters are welcome to apply, however priority will be given to Instructors.
